Cualquier persona preocupada por la salud del planeta conoce de buena mano que las ondas inal\u00e1mbricas de internet no son inocuas para la Tierra. En internet tienen lugar transacciones y acciones que tambi\u00e9n generan emisiones, y por lo tanto, contribuyen al cambio clim\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n

Aunque en ocasiones, las nuevas tecnolog\u00edas permiten reducir el impacto ambiental de algunos procesos y pr\u00e1cticas, seg\u00fan el Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya<\/strong> (Irec): \u201cSi internet fuera un pa\u00eds, ser\u00eda el sexto por consumo de energ\u00eda del mundo, con un gasto similar al de Rusia\u201d.<\/p>\n

El elevado consumo energ\u00e9tico de internet tiene lugar en los centros de datos. Se trata de salas de ordenadores que funcionan 24 horas al d\u00eda durante todo el a\u00f1o, y que necesitan refrigeraci\u00f3n continua para evitar una ca\u00edda de la red. Los emails que enviamos utilizando la tecnolog\u00eda wi-fi o los v\u00eddeos de Youtube que vemos durante nuestro trayecto a casa en autob\u00fas, tambi\u00e9n generan emisiones de CO2.<\/p>\n
