Con la pandemia hemos podido comprobar que gracias al confinamiento del aire de las ciudades y el estado de los mares y oc\u00e9anos mejoraban. Ahora con el reinicio de los desplazamientos de viajeros, varios temas han puesto de nuevo sobre la mesa el problema de las emisiones de GEI del transporte, la propuesta de AENA de ampliaci\u00f3n del aeropuerto del Prat de Barcelona, \u200b\u200bque conllevar\u00eda la desaparici\u00f3n de zonas protegidas, as\u00ed como la aprobaci\u00f3n por parte de la Asamblea Nacional francesa de la Ley de Lucha Contra el Cambio Clim\u00e1tico que, entre otras medidas, prohibir\u00e1 los vuelos nacionales que tengan una alternativa en tren en menos de dos horas y media.<\/p>\n

Desde la Plataforma ZEO queremos aportar nuestra visi\u00f3n del tema desde el punto de vista de las emisiones de los GEI que supone uno u otro medio de transporte.<\/p>\n
Para ello hemos recogido el \u00faltimo informe anual de la Agencia Europea del Medio Ambiente (European Environment Agency (EEA)), Mecanismo de Informaci\u00f3n sobre Transporte y Medio Ambiente 2020 (TERM).\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nEl Green Deal europeo se fij\u00f3 el objetivo de reducir las emisiones de GEI del transporte en un 90% hasta 2050 en comparaci\u00f3n con 1990.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Si vemos datos del 2018, el sector del transporte supone el 25% de las emisiones de GEI de la UE. Por sectores, el principal emisor es el transporte por carretera con un 72%, el mar\u00edtimo un 14%, la aviaci\u00f3n el 13% y finalmente el ferroviario que, con un 0’4% (emisiones \u00fanicamente de trenes di\u00e9sel) sigue siendo el medio de transporte de viajeros m\u00e1s ZEO.<\/p>\n

Para llevar a cabo esta cuantificaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n se tuvieron en cuenta las emisiones indirectas provocadas por la producci\u00f3n y distribuci\u00f3n de las fuentes de energ\u00eda utilizadas por los diferentes medios de transporte.<\/p>\n
El informe no ha tenido en cuenta las emisiones provocadas por la construcci\u00f3n y mantenimiento de las infraestructuras, as\u00ed como los gases y part\u00edculas contaminantes producidas por la evaporaci\u00f3n de los combustibles, el desgaste de los neum\u00e1ticos y los frenos o la abrasi\u00f3n del asfalto o de las v\u00edas f\u00e9rreas.<\/p>\n

Entre 2014 y 2018 en el transporte por carretera no se aprecia una mejora en la eficiencia. En cambio, en este periodo, la optimizaci\u00f3n de la eficiencia energ\u00e9tica de los aviones ha supuesto una mejora del 13%. Tiene mucho que ver que en los \u00faltimos 30 a\u00f1os la reducci\u00f3n de emisiones por pasajero ha sido de un 50%.<\/p>\n
En la actualidad se est\u00e1 estudiando el uso del hidr\u00f3geno verde como combustible. Tambi\u00e9n se quiere implantar el comercio de los derechos de emisi\u00f3n y el Plan de Compensaci\u00f3n y Reducci\u00f3n de carbono para la Aviaci\u00f3n Internacional (corazones) con el objetivo de reducir a la mitad las emisiones netas en 2050 respecto a los niveles de 2005.<\/p>\n

Pero aun as\u00ed, las emisiones de GEI por parte del transporte en la UE aumentaron en 2018 y 2019, al rev\u00e9s de la tendencia a la baja de otros sectores. Y las proyecciones sugieren que las emisiones causadas por el transporte se mantendr\u00e1n en 2030 por encima de los niveles de 1990, incluso aplicando las medidas previstas.<\/p>\n

Si nos fijamos en el gr\u00e1fico siguiente, podemos ver c\u00f3mo evolucionan las emisiones seg\u00fan los dos escenarios estudiados, con las medidas actuales o con medidas adicionales. El transporte por carretera que como hemos visto es el principal emisor del sector, ser\u00e1 el que se descarbonizar m\u00e1s r\u00e1pidamente, siempre que la aplicaci\u00f3n de la movilidad el\u00e9ctrica se vaya imponiendo.<\/p>\n

En cuanto a la comparaci\u00f3n entre avi\u00f3n o tren, el avi\u00f3n emite siete veces m\u00e1s GEI que el tren, aunque los costes medioambientales de viajar en avi\u00f3n disminuyen con la distancia porque los ciclos de aterrizaje y despegue reducen su peso en el total del viaje ante el vuelo de crucero. Pero si calculamos la eficiencia por pasajero, el transporte ferroviario es cincuenta veces m\u00e1s eficiente.<\/p>\n
Vistos estos datos, podr\u00edamos pensar que, evidentemente, se debe priorizar el transporte ferroviario. Pero lo que desde el punto de vista de las Cero Emisiones parece obvio, puede que no lo sea tanto cuando tenemos en cuenta otros aspectos relativos a la movilidad.<\/p>\n
