En los a\u00f1os 80, se empez\u00f3 a expandir el uso de pl\u00e1stico para almacenar y conservar todo tipo de productos, desde alimentos y bebidas, hasta menaje de cocina, material de escuela y todo tipo de productos de dimensiones peque\u00f1as o medianas.<\/p>\n
La expansi\u00f3n de las grandes superficies y supermercados tuvieron mucho que ver con la popularizaci\u00f3n y estandarizaci\u00f3n del pl\u00e1stico como material predilecto del sistema de consumo<\/strong>. La sociedad dej\u00f3 de comprar carne, pescado, vegetales y legumbres a granel o en tiendas locales. En paralelo, las bebidas dejaron de comercializarse en vidrio, un material con una huella de carbono menor y m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil de reciclar.<\/p>\n Sin embargo, en la actualidad, se est\u00e1n llevando a cabo muchos esfuerzos a nivel internacional para tratar de eliminar el pl\u00e1stico del mercado<\/strong> debido a que contribuye de forma considerable al cambio clim\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n De hecho, diversos pa\u00edses ya han prohibido la producci\u00f3n de pl\u00e1sticos de un solo uso, y cada vez aparecen m\u00e1s materiales alternativos, org\u00e1nicos o de bajo impacto medioambiental para substituir el uso de los mismos.<\/p>\n Precisamente el 1 de enero de 2023, entr\u00f3 en vigor la directiva aprobada por la Comisi\u00f3n Europea en 2019,\u00a0para retirar del mercado los productos de pl\u00e1stico de un solo uso<\/strong>. Durante dos a\u00f1os, los Estados miembros\u00a0de la Uni\u00f3n Europea han tenido que trasladar esta directiva y normativa ZEO al ordenamiento jur\u00eddico nacional.<\/p>\n Reducir la huella de carbono de esta industria puede ayudarnos a combatir el cambio clim\u00e1tico y lograr una econom\u00eda m\u00e1s circular.<\/p>\n Y es que el pl\u00e1stico genera emisiones en muchos niveles: durante su producci\u00f3n y su posterior comercializaci\u00f3n, y durante el proceso de descomposici\u00f3n y su posterior reciclaje.<\/p>\n Se estima que, para producir un kilo de pl\u00e1stico virgen, se generan 3,5 kg de emisiones de CO2.
